Hands of Peace is an Educational Non-Profit Organization
MISSION
Hands of Peace mission is to build a movement throughout Alaska of
using creative conflict resolution skills that empower Alaskan
communities through individual and collective transformation.

GOAL
Our goal is to enable individuals to build successful interpersonal skills,
gain insights into themselves and develop peaceful positive approaches
to their lives, by providing educational workshops.
PHILOSOPHY
The fundamental belief in Hands of Peace is that there is a power for
peace in everyone, available to those who are open to it. This power
for peace has the ability to transform violence and is called
“Transforming Power”.

METHOD
We facilitate lively, experiential workshops with conflict management tools.
We teach using experiential learning and draw on the shared
experiences of participants and facilitators to explore how anger,
frustration, prejudice and injustice cause violence in our lives.
We educate participants in nonviolent human relationship skills to
manage conflict effectively and invite them to become agents of peace in their communities.
Hands of Peace activates leadership potential in teaching team building and group facilitation skills.

ORGANIZATION
Hands of Peace has its origins with Alternatives to Violence/USA and
like AVP, has ties to the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
Quakers believe everyone has a natural power for peace. We draw our
volunteer facilitators and participants from all religions, races and walks
of life. Hands of Peace collaborates with AVP/USA in shared governing
policies and procedures which support the values of: Democracy,
Responsibility, Cooperation, Honesty, Egalitarianism and Peace Education.
